Danantara Rombak Holding Farmasi, Kimia Farma Keluar dari Bio Farma
JAKARTA - Danantara Indonesia is restructuring the holding structure of the State-Owned Enterprises (BUMN) pharmaceutical with releasing PT Kimia Farma Tbk (KAEF) and PT Kimia Farma Apotek (KFA) from the auspices of PT Bio Farma (Persero). This policy is scheduled to run in 2026 as part of the overall transformation of the national pharmaceutical sector.
Danantara Indonesia Chief Operating Officer (COO), Dony Oskaria, said that Kimia Farma will stand directly under Danantara in the future. Meanwhile, Kimia Farma Apotek's position is still under evaluation for the possibility of becoming an independent entity.
"Bio Farma is no longer a holding company for Kimia Farma and Kimia Farma Apotek. Kimia Farma is directly under Danantara. Kimia Farma Apotek is also being reviewed for independence," Dony told reporters in Jakarta, writing Thursday, January 29.
Dony explained that the restructuring was driven by the fundamental differences in the business models of each entity. Bio Farma will be focused as a vaccine research and development center, while Kimia Farma is engaged in the pharmaceutical manufacturing sector. As for Kimia Farma Apotek, it has a different retail business character.
"Bio Farma is actually based on research. He is doing new vaccines, in addition to just production. Unlike Kimia Farma, whose nature business is the manufacture of drugs," said Dony.
Meanwhile, continued Dony, Kimia Farma Apotek is considered to have its own challenges, especially in terms of system integration and management of large-scale retail networks. According to Dony, the thousands of pharmacies owned by KFA to date have not been optimally integrated through digital systems.
"We don't know how much our stock is, what the SKU is in the pharmacy, which is selling, which is not. We don't have IT technology systems," he said.
Currently, continued Dony, Danantara is re-data collection and implementing information technology systems at Kimia Farma Apotek to improve transparency, efficiency, and business decision-making.
Dony emphasized that the transformation of the pharmaceutical SOEs aims to strengthen the competitiveness of the national drug industry while ensuring the affordability of drug prices for the public. With the sharpening of the road map of each entity, the government hopes that the pharmaceutical SOEs can be managed professionally and sustainably.
"This drug industry, we believe, we believe that this is very needed in Indonesia. How then can we lower the price of drugs, of course the existence of SOEs," concluded Dony.
