Audi Sales in China Continue to Fall to Make Dealers Fall

JAKARTA - The pressure of the Chinese automotive market is increasingly felt by Audi due to declining sales that are accompanied by shrinking profit margins. This is also what makes a number of dealers of German brands forced to close.

Reported by Carnewschina, Thursday, January 29, several Audi dealers also stopped operating, even losing business licenses in various regions, ranging from Henan, Guangxi, Beijing, Jiangsu, to Zhejiang.

Entering January 2026, a number of Audi vehicle owners reported that the Audi Kaifeng Jin'ao dealer allegedly stopped operating suddenly. As a result, the multi-year maintenance package they had previously purchased for 16,800 to 18,800 yuan or starting at Rp. 40-45 million. Ironically, some consumers had only bought their cars about six months earlier.

Not only customers are harmed, but the dealer employees are also said to be taking legal action because of the unpaid wages. In response to this situation, FAW-Audi's customer service said that Audi Kaifeng Jin'ao officially withdrew from the FAW-Audi network as of November 13, 2025.

The manufacturer also advised vehicle owners to communicate directly with the dealer concerned or consider legal action. In terms of performance, Audi recorded a 5 percent decrease in sales throughout 2025 compared to the previous year.

It is recorded that the total distribution reached 617,500 units and it was the second consecutive year that Audi experienced a sales slowdown in the Chinese market. Although FAW-Audi claimed to have managed to regain the market share of gasoline-powered luxury cars in China (including imported models) after six years, the realization still showed a negative trend.

From 611,100 units in 2024, sales fell 6.7 percent to 570,100 units in 2025. Amid this pressure, Audi took aggressive steps through massive price cuts with dealers now offering the 2026 Audi A3 starting at 106,700 yuan or equivalent to a discount of up to 40 percent.

Meanwhile, the Audi Q3 and Q4 e-tron are released starting at 131,800 yuan and 157,900 yuan, with a claimed discount of up to 50 percent. To recover momentum, FAW-Audi is preparing to launch a new model by the end of 2026.

Two flagship sedans, the latest generation Audi A6L and Audi A6L e-tron, are scheduled to launch this year. The Audi A6L e-tron will be Audi's first electric sedan built on the Premium Platform Electric (PPE) architecture specifically for the Chinese market.
