Dee Lestari Hands Down to Sing the Paper Boat Version
JAKARTA - Starting from the first digital story in Indonesia in 2007, Paper Boat turned into a printed book in 2008. Then six years passed, the book was adapted and born into the film Paper Boat 1 & 2 in 2012.
The song Perahu Kertas also won the 2012 Maya Cup as the best original soundtrack. And now, fourteen years later, exactly at the end of January 2026, Perahu Kertas was born as a musical stage led by Trinity Optima Production and Indonesia Kaya.
The continuation of the IP's journey did not stop there. To fill his third solo album, Dee Lestari, the author of the book and the film script of Paper Boat, finally sang the song "Paper Boat" himself which he created fourteen years ago.
Of course, making a new version of a very popular song with hundreds of millions of streams is a challenge in itself. For this reason, Dee Lestari and the Management Team decided on several strategic steps, including by collaborating with a cool-handed producer, Petra Sihombing. In Petra's hands, the arrangement of "Paper Boat" was successfully renewed and has its own distinctive and distinctive character.
Instead of an acoustic guitar, in this new arrangement, Petra picked up an electric guitar that was more edgy. The song's graphics were made more dynamic and climactic. Together with vocal director Kamga Mo, who also contributed to the background vocals, the vocal harmonies in the new arrangement of "Paper Boat" became a rich layer that added to the depth of the song's dimensions.
Dee Lestari's version of Paper Boat feels mature, majestic, without losing the magic that makes this song so popular. The message about human beings' journey in realizing dreams, finding love, and heart attachment, is increasingly felt by Dee.
The lyric video which involves some footage of Dee Lestari book readers who interpret the lyrics of the song Paper Boat. Intercut with footage of the Gili Terawangan beach location, the video further emphasizes the beauty of human relationships - both friendship and love stories.
The song "Perahu Kertas" was released simultaneously on various streaming platforms on January 28, 2026 along with the lyric video. This song will be the second single from Dee Lestari's solo album which is planned to be released in mid-2026.
