After Police Killed Attacked, Papuan Police Send Brimob To Oksamol
JAKARTA - The Papuan Police Chief Inspector General Mathius Fakhiri said his party was sending members of the Mobile Brigade Corps (Brimob) to Oksamol, Bintang Mountains Regency, the border between Indonesia and PNG.
According to Fakhiri, a Brimob team from Kotaraja was already in Oksamol. The Regional Police Chief stated that his party would add personnel to secure the Oksamol sub-sector police and at the same time pursue the perpetrators.
"For the time being, the general police are not stationed in the area," said Papuan Police Chief Inspector General Fakhiri in Jayapura, as reported by Antara, Monday, May 31.
Until now, he said, his party had not been able to determine the group that carried out the attack and shooting that killed First Brigadier Mario Sanai on Thursday, May 28 evening.
He revealed that the victim died from gunshot wounds suspected of using organic firearms at the Oksamol sub-sector police.
In addition to killing members of the Police, he continued, the attackers also seized three firearms and ammunition.
When asked about the lack of personnel on duty, the Papuan Police Chief said that his party would conduct an evaluation related to the placement of personnel.
"Placement of personnel in areas prone to security disturbances must range from 5-15 personnel so that there is a body system," said Police Chief Inspector General Mathius Fakhiri.
