Follow-up to the Davos Forum, KKP Bidik Investment in Rising Waters through the 2026 OIS Event
JAKARTA - Indonesia has been appointed as the host of the international marine activity Ocean Impact Summit (OIS) on June 8-9, 2026 in Bali.
The activity was held following the important space for strengthening the marine agenda from the World Economic Forum (WEF) 2026 chain in Davos, Switzerland.
The Expert Staff of the Minister of Marine Affairs and Fisheries for Ecology and Marine Resources, Hendra Yusran Siry, explained that the meeting, which will be attended by thousands of participants from hundreds of countries, including heads of state, political leaders and global CEOs, is a crucial momentum.
In the meeting, water and sea issues received special attention through an approach known as Blue Davos.
In the framework of Blue Davos, said Hendra, the issue of water is placed as the foundation of global sustainability.
The pressure on the aquatic ecosystem is increasingly evident, ranging from increased sea temperatures, the risk of flooding reaching billions of people around the world to shrinking freshwater sources.
On the other hand, the economic value of the marine ecosystem is considered very large, but investment in the sector is still relatively small.
The focus was then translated into three main pillars, namely freshwater management and access, blue food security, and marine protection and strengthening the blue economy.
"We also hope that there will be an increase in one of the efforts to increase investment in the blue economy," said Hendra in a press conference at the KKP office, Jakarta, Wednesday, January 28.
The Ministry of Maritime Affairs and Fisheries (KKP) is utilizing the Davos Forum to strengthen blue economic diplomacy.
The Indonesian delegation attended a number of key agendas, including a forum themed accelerating the blue economy which brought together stakeholders from the government, research institutions, business actors to the global financial sector.
Not only that, KKP also held a side event to introduce OIS as an event to make a meeting place for cross-country, science and private sector meetings to discuss the impact and opportunities of the marine sector.
He also conveyed that the plan to implement the Ocean Impact Summit 2026 had been mentioned in the opening of the WEF and was expected to be a strategic event for Indonesia.
"The strategic direction is how Indonesia will become a hub for the sea in Asia. At least that is what is expected from the results of the discussion between the President and Ray Dalio," he explained.
Meanwhile, the Head of the KKP Multilateral Cooperation Team, Desri Yanti, who was also present at the Davos Forum, said that the Minister of Marine Affairs and Fisheries (KP) Sakti Wahyu Trenggono had signed a letter of intent (LoI) with the WEF.
He said, WEF is known as a global think tank.
The institution regularly holds various international forums.
The cooperation is expected to boost the Ocean Impact Summit (OIS) in June 2026 in Bali.
"Of course we collaborate and use the networking owned by the World Economic Forum to get direct access to investors and global business actors," he explained.
