Poetry Turned into a Song: The Story Behind Judika's Latest Single, Terpikat Pada Cinta

JAKARTA - Judika with his latest single, Terpikat Pada Cinta, contains a unique story involving a young writer, Anastasia Melinda Ekajaya, who contributed to the lyrics.

The single takes one of the poems contained in Melinda's first book, "Jelmaan Merpati", which was then transformed into a song worked on by Rian Ekky Pradipta (D'Masiv) as a producer.

In the initial process of developing this project, Melinda sent a number of poems written by her, which were then curated by Rkan, and then Judika was chosen as the right person to bring it.

"At that time, Melinda had sent several poems. But I didn't want to rush, so I had to sort out which poems were suitable for songs, and finally one of the poems that Melinda made I chose, the title 'Stop At You', for Judika," said Rian at a press conference at PADEL 5IVE, Kelapa Gading, North Jakarta on Wednesday, January 28.

For Melinda, this project is a personal achievement. Previously, he had never thought of turning his poetry into a song. Happiness increased when Judika accepted the offer to perform it.

"Actually, I thought whoever sang it, it was really proud of me and I was really grateful. But once I knew Kak Judika (who sang it), who I've been following since the beginning and really like, I was really happy," said the 25-year-old writer.

"Stop At You" as a poem and "Captivated By Love" as a song contain some changes. Even so, there is no objection at all. Melinda actually feels that her writing has found a "new home" and its meaning has become deeper.

"This is much deeper than I imagined. The result is very satisfying. Even during the workshop, I already felt this song was very deep, so it's very good," said Melinda.

"And the meaning of 'new home', usually my poems are in the form of writing, which can only be read by people through books. But now it has become a song that people can listen to. So, like his poetry, he found his new home in this song," he added.

Judika also acknowledged the deep meaning of the lyrics of "Terpikat Pada Cinta", which he said made his latest single different from other works he had ever performed.

"This time it's a little different because this song turns out to be after I've delved into it, the song is deeper than the first one I heard. Because the topic is not just falling in love, after I've delved into it it turns out not to be that simple, this song talks about love that not only gives happiness, but also other feelings that we also have to accept," said Judika.

"So there are very complex things in this song, which makes me work hard to bring it. Do I have to be happy or sad?" he continued. "That's the challenge. And I feel this song is one of my best songs. "

The 47-year-old singer of Batak blood also admitted that his first collaboration with Rian D'Masiv was a unique thing, which he had been waiting for a long time.

"For me this song is very special because this is the first time I have been produced by Rian D'Masiv," said Judika.

"It's also been thought, 'When can I collaborate with Rian?' Not only singing, but he can produce his songs. And this time I got that chance, produced by Rian. That's one very special thing," he said.
