Prabowo Directly Leads the National Energy Council to Achieve Self-sufficiency

JAKARTA - The President of the Republic of Indonesia (RI) Prabowo Subianto appointed the National Energy Council (DEN) at the Presidential Palace, Wednesday, January 28.

Minister of State Secretary Prasetyo Hadi emphasized that the energy issue was placed as a national priority. This was conveyed after the government assessed that the achievement of food self-sufficiency, especially rice, occurred within one year.

He also revealed that this DEN was directly headed by Prabowo. The chairman of the Daily Committee is the Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM) Bahlil Lahadalia.

The composition of the members is divided into two clusters. Seven ministers or government officials are directly responsible for energy affairs. The other eight come from stakeholder elements. They have gone through the selection mechanism and were inaugurated today.

"Why did the President immediately appoint? Because energy is one of the priorities," said the Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources, who was met before the inauguration.

Government elements include Minister of Finance Purbaya Yudhi Sadewa, Minister of Bappenas Rachmat Pambudy, Minister of Transportation Dudy Purwagandhi, Minister of Industry Gumiwang Kartasasmita, Minister of Education and Culture Andi Amran Sulaiman, Minister of Science and Technology Brian Yuliano, and Minister of Environment Hanif Faisol Nurofiq.

Meanwhile, the stakeholders are Mohamad Fadhil Hasan, Satya Widya Yudha, Unggul Priyanto, Sripeni Inten Cahyani, Saleh Abdurrahman, Muhammad Kholid Syeirazi, Johni Jonatan Numberi, and Surono.

When asked whether DEN would accelerate national electrification, Prasetyo emphasized that DEN's role was not to replace the technical ministry. DEN is tasked with accelerating the preparation process of priority programs that have been initiated by the relevant ministries. He admitted that the energy agenda was not simple. The challenges range from increasing oil lifting, encouraging renewable energy, to switching to other energy sources. Including the use of solar energy because Indonesia is located in the equatorial region.

Prasetyo said that this year's target is there. The focus is on pursuing domestic energy sufficiency. The program is accelerated even though it takes a long time. One of them is the transition to biofuels and bio-solar. He asked for public support so that DEN can work more effectively and faster. The goal is to encourage Indonesia to move towards energy independence.
