Disaster Handling Not Yet Completed, Emergency Disaster Response Status in Pidie Jaya Extended
JAKARTA - The Pidie Jaya Regency Government (Pemkab) in Aceh Province, has extended the status of emergency response to hydrometeorological disasters for the next two weeks, from January 29 to February 12, 2026.
Pidie Jaya Regent Sibral Malasyi said this was the fifth time the emergency response status had been extended. The status was because the handling of flash floods in Pidie Jaya was not complete.
"This extension is because the process of handling the emergency flood that hit late November 2025 and the initial recovery in the flood-affected areas is still ongoing," he said in Pidie Jaya, Wednesday, quoted by Antara.
The Regent said the decision to extend the emergency disaster response period was determined in a meeting with the elements of the Pidie Jaya Regency Regional Leadership Coordination Forum (Forkopimda) on Tuesday, January 27 evening.
According to the Regent, the meeting decided to extend the emergency response status because several handling conditions had not been completed. Such as many public facilities such as village head offices, meunasah, schools, and others are still buried in mud.
Likewise, the road sections in the area affected by hydrometeorological disasters are still buried in mud and have even hardened, making it difficult to clean without the support of heavy equipment.
"The extension of the emergency disaster response status is a strategic step and ensures that post-disaster emergency handling runs optimally, is coordinated, and sustainable," said Sibral Malasyi.
The Regent said the extension of the emergency disaster response status was also to ensure the provision of logistics, health services, clean water, and protection of vulnerable groups were met.
"The extension of the status is also needed to accelerate the provision of housing for people who lost their homes due to flash floods that occurred at the end of November 2025," he said.
The Regent hopes that the extension of the emergency disaster response status will benefit the affected community, as well as become the foundation in entering the post-disaster rehabilitation and reconstruction period.
"We also emphasize the commitment of the Pidie Jaya Regency Government to continue to be present and ensure the safety and recovery of the community as the main priority. We also hope that cross-sectoral coordination and synergy will run effectively, so that disaster handling runs quickly and properly," said Sibral Malasyi.
