Development of Tanjung Lesung Tourism Area Based on Innovation and Sustainability

JAKARTA - The expanse of white sandy beaches, calm seas, and still beautiful natural landscapes make Tanjung Lesung one of the flagship destinations on the west coast of Banten.

No wonder, this area is known as a vacation spot that offers tranquility as well as a variety of tourist activities, ranging from family recreation to sports and cultural agendas.

In recent years, Tanjung Lesung has continued to transform into a modern destination that prioritizes the experience, sustainability, and comfort of visitors.

2025 is an important phase in the development of the Tanjung Lesung tourist area. In the midst of the positive trend of national tourism, this destination is increasingly asserting its position as a tourist area that not only relies on natural scenery, but also innovation and sustainable management.

Throughout 2025, Tanjung Lesung presents various activities designed to create an unforgettable experience for visitors. Not just a place to stop by, this area is brought to life through a variety of agendas, ranging from community activities to the organization of large-scale events.

A number of events such as the Rhino Eco Run, Sunset Fun Run Fest, Aero Sport Fest, to the Exciting Banten Festival are magnets that bring visitors from various backgrounds.

There are participants who run along the beach, families who enjoy local cuisine and crafts, to communities that build togetherness in a relaxed atmosphere. Each activity is designed to add value and leave a lasting impression, not just a momentary holiday experience.

"For us, events at Tanjung Lesung are not just 'innovations' to bring visitors. But we want to introduce Tanjung Lesung closer and become a memorable place. We want visitors who come, move, interact, and then go home with stories. Not just taking photos or enjoying the beauty of the beach panorama with its tranquility," said Tanjung Lesung President Director, Poernomo Siswaprasetijo.

Poernomo, who also serves as the CEO of the Pacific Asia Travel Association (PATA) Indonesia Chapter, added that the development of the area is carried out sustainably. Throughout 2025, the Tanjung Lesung management is actively building communication and collaboration with local and central governments, related agencies, and various stakeholders in the tourism sector. Various initiatives have also received appreciation through awards from the Banten News Awards.

Entering 2026, Tanjung Lesung faces both challenges and great opportunities. One of the anticipated momentum is the plan to open the Serang-Panimbang Toll Section 2 in October 2026. This infrastructure is believed to reduce the travel time to Tanjung Lesung to around two to two and a half hours.

According to Poernomo, the presence of tolls not only facilitates access, but also has the potential to change the tourist map of the Jabodetabek area. With a shorter distance and equivalent to a trip to Puncak, Bogor, Tanjung Lesung has the opportunity to become a main destination for family tourism.

"Welcoming the opening of the toll, we are strengthening the attraction by increasing the variety of tourist activities that are already available. Starting from water sports, land sports, to cultural tourism," said Poernomo.

On the other hand, visitor comfort remains the main focus. The four beaches managed by Tanjung Lesung, including the Kalica private beach, are routinely maintained so that their cleanliness and naturalness are maintained. Various accommodation options are also provided with a range of varying prices, so that visitors can adjust to their respective needs and preferences.

Protecting Nature through Sustainability Commitment

Efforts to improve facilities are also marked by the presence of a 14-kilometer beach security equipped with jogging and pedestrian paths. This facility adds a sense of security as well as a new space for tourists to be active.

"In fact, this jogging track is a new favorite place and it's worth trying to walk leisurely, exercise, and enjoy the sunrise and sunset moments," said Poernomo.

Commitment to environmental sustainability is also an important part of the management of the area. Tanjung Lesung routinely cleans the beach, plants trees, manages turtle breeding to be released, and coral reef conservation.

The coral reef "foster parent" program is also being developed as an effort to keep the marine ecosystem healthy amid increasing tourism activities.

"These are the efforts we have made so far. An effort to keep the balance between nature and tourism. So that the beauty in Tanjung Lesung that is enjoyed today can continue to be enjoyed by the next generation," concluded Poernomo.
