JAKARTA - WhatsApp announced the implementation of a new security layer using the Rust programming language, to strengthen user protection from malware and spyware threats, especially those inserted through media files such as photos, videos, and documents.

In addition, Meta also launched the Advanced Account Protection feature in WhatsApp, which is aimed at users with high risk, such as journalists, activists, and public figures, who are vulnerable to sophisticated cyber attacks.
"We recognize that some users, such as journalists or public figures, may require high protection from rare and highly sophisticated cyberattacks," Meta wrote in its announcement on Wednesday, January 28.
If enabled, the system will automatically apply the most restrictive privacy settings, including:
Blocking attachments and media from numbers that are not in contacts Limiting a number of specific functions to reduce the attack surfaceThis feature will be rolled out gradually over the next few weeks and can be enabled via the Settings > Privacy > Advanced menu.
WhatsApp insists security is a key foundation of its service, including the use of end-to-end encryption by default, encrypted backups, key transparency technology, and an expanded bug bounty program.
"At WhatsApp, we believe everyone has a right to private conversations online just like in real life," the company wrote.
