Carlos Alcaraz Reaches Australia Open 2026 Semifinal

JAKARTA - Carlos Alcaraz eliminated host Alex de Minaur to reach the 2026 Australian Open semifinals, which was the first time he had been in that phase at Melbourne Park.

The 22-year-old silenced the Rod Laver Arena crowd in a straight-sets match 7-5, 6-2, and 6-1 to keep his hopes alive on Tuesday, January 27, 2026, WIB night.

"I'm happy with the way I'm playing here. From the first half to now, I've continued to improve my level of play in every game," said Alcaraz, as reported by BBC Sport.

The victory saw Alcaraz end Australia's hopes of having a homegrown men's singles champion for the first time since Mark Edmondson in 1976.

In addition, being able to enter the top four makes Alcaraz manage to maintain his chances to become the youngest tennis player in history to win all Grand Slams.

"Today I feel very comfortable, playing tennis very well and I'm proud of it. I'm very happy to get to the semifinals," said the Spanish player.

Alcaraz already has six Grand Slam titles after winning the French Open, Wimbledon, and US Open twice each. However, his furthest journey at Melbourne Park was previously the quarterfinals.

In the semifinal round, Alcaraz will meet Alexander Zverev. The third-seeded German qualified for the last four after eliminating Learner Tien from the United States.
