Tawuran Masih Mengancam Jakarta, DPRD Nilai Pendekatan Humanis Tak Cukup
JAKARTA - The handling of riots in Jakarta has once again drawn criticism. The humanist approach that has always been put forward by the DKI Jakarta Provincial Government is considered to have not shown tangible results in reducing the number of inter-citizen violence, especially involving children and adolescents.
Secretary of the E Commission of the DKI Jakarta DPRD, Justin Adrian, assessed that the government should not wait for the death of a new victim before conducting a serious evaluation of the pattern of handling fights.
"We are still waiting for the results of the humanistic approach in handling fights in Jakarta. I hope we don't have to wait for more victims or lives," Justin told reporters, Wednesday, January 28.
According to him, fighting is a long-standing problem that cannot be solved with advice and appeals. He believes that without firm consequences, prevention efforts will continue to be repeated without a deterrent effect.
"I personally still think that fights will not disappear with advice or appeals, but can only be significantly reduced with the consequences of severe sanctions," he said.
He proposed that the DKI Provincial Government consider sanctions that directly affect the environment of the perpetrators. One of them is the revocation of social assistance for the family members of the rioting perpetrators.
In addition, he also encouraged the introduction of new regulations regulating the responsibilities of parents, especially if the perpetrators of fights are still minors. According to him, the allowance in child supervision also needs to be given legal consequences.
"It can also be by implementing a new regulation that penalizes fines and/or imprisonment for parents who neglect to maintain their children's relationships, if the rioting perpetrator is still under age or the age of the child," he said.
He assessed that the problem of fights could not be solved by relying on large budgets for facilities and security patrols. Family involvement is said to be a crucial factor that has not been seriously touched.
"This problem of fighting cannot be solved with the pouring of people's tax money for 'facilities' or 'patrols', but also requires the participation of families or parents," said Justin.
He also reminded that the responsibility for education and character formation of children should not be entirely imposed on the government. Without the involvement of parents, the state's efforts are said to always hit a dead end.
Furthermore, he assessed that the failure to resolve the problem of fighting would have an impact on the overall development agenda of Jakarta. According to him, social security is a foundation that cannot be ignored.
"It is nonsense if we want to build Jakarta if the government is not able to solve the brawl alone," he concluded.
