Deputy Chairman of the West Java DPRD Controls Rp45 Billion Mine Impact Compensation Fund
BOGOR - Deputy Chairman of the West Java DPRD, Iwan Suryawan, gave full attention to the escalation of the mining controversy in the Bogor Regency area, especially in Parungpanjang, Cigudeg, and Rumpin Districts.
The conflict triggered by environmental impacts and social friction between the mining transport fleet and citizen mobility requires concrete solutions by 2026.
Iwan emphasized that the West Java DPRD has a strong commitment to maintaining a balance between economic growth and human values.
"West Java DPRD stands in a clear position to support the investment climate, but will not tolerate any disregard for the people's right to life. The safety of residents and the sustainability of the environment are absolute priorities that cannot be negotiated just to pursue economic value from the mining sector alone," said Iwan Suryawan, Wednesday, January 28.
Based on the latest data, the West Java Provincial Government through the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources is conducting a massive evaluation of this sector.
Throughout 2025, there were 76 Mining Business Permits (IUP) issued under strict supervision, the majority of which were extensions for companies with a good environmental track record.
However, this senior PKS politician also expressed deep concern over the findings of 176 illegal mining points in West Java which damaged nature without contributing to the region's income.
As a concrete step for affected residents in Bogor, Iwan explained that the DPRD had agreed on the allocation of compensation funds which is now entering the final stage.
In the 2026 fiscal year, a fund of Rp. 45 billion has been prepared to complete the fourth phase of compensation for 18,231 families in three sub-districts through a direct spending scheme to ensure transparency.
The Regional Secretary of West Java, Herman Suryatman, previously had ensured that the regional cash condition was in a safe position to meet these needs.
"Enough, the budget is available," said Herman.
Regarding supervision in the field, Iwan Suryawan stated that the legislative body collectively encouraged the formation of a cross-commission task force to monitor the cessation of mining activities in disaster red zones.
He emphasized that the Governor's Circular regarding the temporary suspension of these activities must be obeyed without compromise.
"The synergy between citizen reports and government firmness is the key to making West Java energy independent without sacrificing the lives and comfort of its citizens," concluded Iwan.
