Celebrating Ramadan 2026, Iwan Suryawan asks the West Java Provincial Government to guarantee social assistance for poor people who are not DTKS

JAKARTA - Deputy Chairman of the West Java Provincial DPRD Iwan Suryawan asked the West Java Provincial Government to expand the reach of social assistance schemes ahead of Ramadan and Eid al-Fitr in 2026.

The main focus emphasized is the non-data group or not registered in the DTKS and vulnerable groups who have not been touched by formal government assistance.

Iwan emphasized that thousands of street children in the Bandung, Bekasi, and Sukabumi regions, as well as extreme poor people scattered from administrative lists, must be ensured to receive food security.

He reminded that the momentum of a big religious day should not leave grief for the pre-existing citizens just because the state is absent in distributing assistance evenly.

"Don't let there be residents who miss the happiness of Ramadan and Eid al-Fitr just because of administrative problems or are not recorded. The government must have clear eyes and hands down to the RT/RW level to record all residents," said Iwan on Wednesday, January 28, 2026.

Data accuracy is said to be the main key so that no more citizens are overlooked by the government. This PKS legislator refers to several heartbreaking cases in previous years related to elderly people who are starving because they are not registered.

He emphasized that if there is even one person who is hungry in the region, it is an indication that the function of supervision and distribution of assistance has failed.

"We don't want to hear anymore the sad stories of residents like Sutijas grandmother in Ciamis Regency who cried because they couldn't eat during fasting or couldn't go on vacation. That is a hard blow for all of us," he continued.

Based on preliminary data in 2026, the phenomenon of street children and Social Welfare Service (PPKS) in West Java shows a trend of increase in major cities.

Iwan urged that this year's assistance scheme should not only rely on routine assistance such as PKH or BPNT, but also need additional food packages so that people's purchasing power is maintained in the midst of seasonal inflation.

"If there is assistance from the Government, make sure that before Lebaran it reaches the hands of the people. Don't let the money only flow after the Eid is over, it's too late," added Iwan.

Apart from cash assistance, Iwan asked the Social Service to carry out active outreach that is humanistic rather than repressive.

He encouraged officers to go directly to the underpasses and markets to ensure that street children have access to decent food.

According to him, street children are also part of citizens who have the right to feel the pleasure of sahur and breaking the fast properly.

Cooperation with institutions such as BAZNAS West Java is also considered vital to fill the gap for residents who are not included in the Social Welfare Integrated List (DTKS).

At the end of his statement, Iwan also reminded the Food Task Force to continue to monitor stocks and prices in the market so that the assistance provided by the government is not wasted due to price games by speculators.

"Social sensitivity is the spirit of Ramadan. If the government has tried with its policies, the community must also help each other. Don't let us be full, while our neighbors next door are starving," concluded Iwan.
