Beat Fiorentina in the Coppa Italia, Como Challenge Napoli

JAKARTA - Como 1907 was successful in the Coppa Italia by advancing to the quarter finals. In the 16th round match at the Artemio Franchi Stadium, Wednesday, January 28, 2026 early morning WIB, Como defeated the host Fiorentina 3-1. The victory brought Como to face the strong opponent Napoli in the eight finals.

Como, a club backed by Indonesian company Djarum Group, is slowly cementing its position as a club to reckon with.

With a status as a team that has only been promoted for one year, Como achieved an impressive feat in the Italian Serie A by ranking sixth. Last season, I Biancoblu stayed in the highest class after being in the middle of the table.

Now, they occupy a better position because they are able to survive at the top. The team coached by Cesc Fabregas still hopes to break into the Champions League zone because they are only three points behind Napoli who are in fourth place. However, if they stay in sixth place, they at least get the chance to appear in the UEFA Conference League even though they have to play a playoff.

Not only in the domestic competition, Como also reaped success in the Coppa Italia tournament. When facing Fiorentina in a duel between fellow Serie A teams, Como actually fell behind first. Even Jean Butez's goal was conceded when the match was only seven minutes.

However, Como was able to catch up and turn the tide to win the match with a score of 3-1. The victory made Como the last team to win a ticket to the quarter finals. Como also set a record for the first time in the last 40 years they could reach the Coppa Italia quarter finals.

Only, Como had to meet a tough opponent in the round. They challenged Napoli who are the defending champions of the Italian League. More than that, Fabregas's troops will visit Napoli's home in a duel that will be held on February 11, 2026.

In that match, Como came to Fiorentina's headquarters with high confidence. A big win in Serie A by slaughtering Torino 6-0 made Alberto Moreno et al more confident.

However, Fiorentina managed to take advantage of the gap so that they could break into the Como goal when the match was only seven minutes. Striker Roberto Piccoli received an assist from La Viola's new player Giovanni Fabian to conquer Butez.

Fiorentina's 1-0 advantage did not last long. Como's aggressive play made them able to immediately equalize the score. Midfielder Sergi Roberto broke into the Fiorentina goal during a crisis in the 20th minute. This goal started from a corner kick that was greeted by striker Tasos Douvikas' header.

However, his efforts could still be thwarted which made the ball rebound. Defender Diego Carlos tried to take advantage of it by kicking the ball into the goal but could be blocked by Luca Ranieri. However, the ball became wild and led to Sergi Roberto. Without difficulty, the 33-year-old midfielder who spent his career at Barcelona took a shot from close range that broke the host's goal.

The goal that tied the score to 1-1 made the Como players more confident. They got up and put pressure. Only the efforts of the visiting team have not produced results so that the draw remained until the first half ended.

Entering the second half, Como did not slow down the game. They did not wait long to score again and turn the tide. Through repeated attacks that had failed, Nico Paz who replaced Douvikas due to an injury in the first half managed to overcome the deadlock.

This goal started from Ivan Smolcic's attempt to release a cross. However, defender Niccolo Fortini managed to ward it off. Unfortunately, the ball ended up going to Paz who managed to finish it into a goal in the 60th minute.

The score changed 2-1 for Como. They were even more aggressive attacking the Fiorentina defense, which was threatened with relegation to Serie B because it was at the bottom of the table. Even Como dominated the game and had the opportunity to add a goal.

Their efforts were not in vain. Veteran striker Alvaro Morata who replaced Paz successfully secured Como's victory after breaking the opponent's goal in injury time. The goal in the 90+1 minute changed the score to 3-1 and lasted until the end of the match.
