Japan lodges protest with North Korea over ballistic missile test

Japan lodged a formal protest with North Korea following the launch of two ballistic missiles on Tuesday, according to a statement from the cabinet secretariat.

"North Korea's actions, including repeated ballistic missile launches, pose a threat to the peace and security of our country, the region, and the international community," the document said, as reported by ANTARA from Kyodo, Tuesday, January 27.

"The launch of ballistic missiles violates relevant UN Security Council resolutions and is a serious matter for the safety of our people. Our country strongly condemns this and expresses its strong protest to North Korea," the statement added.

The Japanese government said it had recorded the first launch at 15:54 (local time), followed by the second launch at 16:02 (local time).

The missiles traveled up to 350 kilometers and reached a maximum altitude of 80 kilometers.

The missiles fell outside Japan's exclusive economic zone. There were no reports of damage.
