PN Tanjungpinang WNA Malaysia 15 Years in Prison for Drug Case

Tanjungpinang - The Tanjungpinang District Court (PN), Riau Islands (Kepri) sentenced a 15-year prison sentence to the defendant Voo Wei Chen, a foreign national from Malaysia who was involved in smuggling liquid drugs and methamphetamine.

The verdict was read by the Head of the Panel of Judges Fausi and members in a reading of the verdict at the Tanjungpinang PN Office, Tuesday (27/1).

"The defendant is also required to pay a fine of IDR 500 million, with a three-month imprisonment," said Fausi in his ruling, as reported by ANTARA.

In addition, said Fausi, the defendant Voo Wei Chen was also sentenced to a fine of category V of IDR 500 million. This category is included in the category of fine crimes regulated in Article 79 of the new Criminal Code, in which the category determines the upper limit of the fine that can be imposed by the judge.

According to Fauzi, the defendant was proven to be legally and guilty of controlling and being an intermediary in the sale and purchase of drugs from the country of origin of Malaysia to the city of Tanjungpinang. This is as stated in the second alternative indictment of the Public Prosecutor (JPU).

Meanwhile, the evidence in the form of ten bottles of Class I narcotics in the form of clear liquid, then one package of methamphetamine wrapped in clear plastic was seized for destruction.

"Including, one unit of purple-colored iPhone Pro Max brand mobile phone and the card inside it was seized for the State," he said.

Hearing the judge's verdict, the defendant Voo Wei Chen and the Tanjungpinang District Attorney's Office stated that they would think about it to determine the next legal steps.

Previously, the JPU charged the defendant with a prison sentence of 15 years and a fine of Rp. 1 billion, with a six-month imprisonment.

The defendant Voo Wei Chen was arrested by the police at the Sri Bintan Pura Port (SBP) Tanjungpinang, Friday, May 30, 2025.

From the hands of the defendant, the police found ten bottles of Class I narcotics in liquid form and one package of methamphetamine brought to Tanjungpinang.

The defendant admitted that he was ordered to carry drugs by a person named Ah Boon, who is now a wanted person (DPO).
