Solar Consumption Throughout 2026 Is Projected to Soar, Pertamina Explains the Reason

JAKARTA - Pertamina Patra Niaga projects that solar consumption in 2026 will experience a 3.1 percent surge compared to the quota set.

For information, the quota set for the year 2026 is 18.8 million kiloliters (KL).

Deputy President Director of Pertamina Patra Niaga, Achmad Muchtasyar, explained that this increase in consumption was due to several needs that had not been taken into account in the quota that had been set.

However, Achmad ensured that this increase was still relatively under control.

In fact, he said, the gap between quotas and realization in 2025 was actually recorded as falling by around 1.6 percent.

"However, the quota prepared by the government for 2026 and the prognosis that we calculate will increase or exceed the quota," said Achmad in a Hearing with Commission XII of the Indonesian House of Representatives, Tuesday, January 27.

The former Director General of Oil and Gas of the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources said that this year's solar quota overage was influenced by additional solar utilization for various programs and national needs that had not previously been taken into account in the quota.

He detailed that the needs included post-disaster handling, the national salting program, the Red and White Fishermen Cooperative, to the Food Brigade program.

"But later in the development we will see how much we can use to make revisions. As for kerosene and Pertalite as subsidized fuels, the relative between the quotas given by the government and the realization is quite safe, meaning that it is sufficient for the quotas given by the government," said Achmad.

He also said that the prognosis in 2026 would be a slight decrease between the quota given by the government and the prognosis of realization, although the decrease was only slight.
