Dave Grohl Hints Foo Fighters Have Completed New Album

JAKARTA - Foo Fighters frontman, Dave Grohl, surprisingly revealed that his band had completed the recording process for the latest album.

Grohl made the announcement on the sidelines of his stage performance when opening the Australian tour at UTAS Stadium, Launceston, Tasmania, last weekend.

In front of thousands of fans who filled the stadium, Grohl gave a hard code regarding the return of the Foo Fighters to the Kangaroo Country sooner than expected.

He said the album was just finished a few days before the concert started. This is certainly a big surprise, considering their last album, "But Here We Are", was released in 2023.

"We probably have a new album with cool songs that we just finished a few days ago," Grohl told the audience, quoted by Billboard, Tuesday, January 27.

"This isn't the last time you'll see us," he continued. "We'll be back here sooner than you think... and that's before my next birthday."

Foo Fighters' productive steps are indeed worthy of applause. Throughout last year, they remained active by releasing two new songs, "Today's Song" and "Asking For A Friend", as well as a live album titled "Are Playing Where??? Vol. I" in October.

Entering the beginning of 2026, Grohl et al. immediately stepped on the gas to start the Take Cover tour which began in Mexico.

However, behind the happy news about the new album, Foo Fighters had to face a little personnel problem. Their guitarist, Pat Smear, was forced to miss several stage schedules due to an incident. The 66-year-old musician suffered a broken bone in his leg due to an accident while gardening.

The band confirmed this news through a post on the official social media account in a joking tone, referring to the reference to the fictional documentary This Is Spinal Tap. In the film, one of the characters is said to have died from a "strange gardening accident".

Through Instagram, Foo Fighters shared a homemade poster featuring Smear in a wheelchair complete with scans of his bones.

"In the classic tradition of rock stars having a weird gardening accident, Pat Smear seems to be celebrating the new year by breaking his left leg. This means he will unfortunately miss some shows while some of the bones in his leg heal. We will miss our beloved Pat just as much as you do, but we want him to recover completely and get back on his feet as soon as possible," the band's official statement read.

To fill the vacant position of the guitar left by Smear temporarily, Foo Fighters have appointed Jason Falkner. Falkner's name is no stranger in the music industry, considering he is a mainstay guitarist who often accompanies top musicians such as Beck and St. Vincent.
