Slow Handling, Jaktim Residents Urge Pemda to Be Quick to Handle Flood Victims
JAKARTA - Residents of West Cakung, Cakung, East Jakarta (Jaktim), urge the local government (Pemda) to move quickly (gercep) in taking steps and solutions to overcome the flooding that has hit the area.
"This condition makes people live in fear, especially for the safety of their families and their belongings, we hope there will be action from the government," said the Head of RT 02/RW 07 Cakung Barat Village, Ahmad Nur, quoted by Antara.
According to him, who was met on Jalan Tipar Cakung, Kampung Baru Cakung, East Jakarta, Tuesday, after heavy rain hit the area and lasted for several days in a row, the water quickly overflowed into the residential area.
"If heavy rain lasts a long time, the water will rise quickly. The height is almost one meter. Residents must be anxious because this is not the first time it has happened," said Ahmad.
In addition, Ahmad complained that flooding also risked damaging household equipment, especially electronic goods such as televisions and refrigerators.
According to him, the problem of flooding in West Cakung has become an annual problem that requires serious and sustainable handling.
Due to this condition, Ahmad spoke on behalf of his citizens by voicing the hope that the local government would immediately realize the construction of the pond as a flood control solution.
Residents consider the pond to be one of the important steps to accommodate water discharge during heavy rains.
The plan to build a pond in the Cakung Barat area is currently still in the stage of discussing the budget in the DKI Jakarta DPRD.
The discussion was carried out by Commission D of the DKI Jakarta DPRD for the period 2024-2029 which deals with development, including infrastructure, urban planning, the environment and housing.
Ahmad said the D Commission of the DKI Jakarta DPRD, which is headed by Yuke Yurike, has a supervisory role over technical services, including the Road Construction Service, Water Resources Service, Housing Service, Construction Service, and the Environment Service, to ensure that city development is equitable and sustainable.
Therefore, said Ahmad, residents hope that Commission D can act quickly as a representative of the people to respond to the complaints of the West Cakung community.
The acceleration of discussion and realization of the budget is considered very necessary so that the problem of flooding does not continue to recur and become a burden on residents every rainy season.
"Synergy between the local government, the DKI Jakarta DPRD, technical services and the media so that flood handling can be carried out comprehensively," he said.
Ahmad assessed that quick steps and open communication were the key to creating a safe and comfortable environment from the threat of flooding.
On the other hand, the attitude of the DKI Jakarta Water Resources Service (SDA) is also a concern of the public. Efforts to confirm through a mobile phone connection were reported to have yielded no results.
Previously, the flood on Saturday, January 24 due to heavy rain affected about 50 families (KK) with the number of affected residents estimated to reach around 1,000 people.
Flooding in several points was reported to reach a height of about one meter or equivalent to the waist of an adult, thus disrupting the activities of local residents and causing potential material losses.
