Police Arrest a Gang of Thieves on Pemalang's Independence Day, Several Handhelds Seized
Pemalang - The Pemalang Police, Central Java, have secured four perpetrators of theft from the Cirebon, Surakarta, and Semarang groups who acted during the Pemalang Regency 651th Anniversary carnival.
The Head of the Pemalang Police, AKBP Rendy Setia Permana, said that the theft case was revealed after one of the residents saw two suspects with initials S (62) from Surakarta and N (38) from Cirebon who were stealing mobile phones and wallets of spectators in the middle of the crowd.
"From the hands of the second suspect, we secured six pieces of evidence, six mobile phones and Rp1.9 million in cash," he said, quoted by ANTARA, Tuesday, January 27.
Based on the results of the development, the police secured two other suspects with the initials YS (63) from Surakarta and M (55) from Semarang who were arrested in the Brebes Regency area with 12 mobile phone evidence.
He said the four suspects came from the Surakarta, Semarang and Cirebon groups. The three groups know each other and often communicate via WhatsApp.
"It is suspected that the three groups know that the activities that gather crowds in Pemalang come from information circulating on social media," he said.
After receiving information from social media, the group from Surakarta and Semarang together came to Pemalang Square by driving a car driven by suspect YS.
Meanwhile, the group from Cirebon used a car driven by a man who is still being pursued and has been included in the police's wanted list (DPO).
"In addition to the DPO from the Cirebon group, we are also still pursuing a woman who entered the DPO from the Semarang group," he said.
