TNI Officer Attacks Gorontalo Police Detention Center, Demands Family of Sexual Violence Suspect Be Released

GORONTALO - The Head of Public Relations of the Gorontalo Regional Police (Polda) Kombespol Desmont Harjendro explained the chronology of a TNI officer raiding the Gorontalo Regional Police detention room (rutan) to ask his family members who were suspects to be released.

Desmont said the incident occurred on Saturday, January 24, where a man came to the detention room with the intention of freeing his family who were being detained.

"It's true that the incident happened on Saturday afternoon, where the TNI member claimed to be the family of one of the suspects who was being detained and the case was in the process," Desmont said in Gorontalo, Monday, quoted by Antara.

At the time of the incident, the perpetrator and the officer who was on guard had a debate, even the incident had been recorded on video and quickly spread on social media to generate various responses.

During the debate, the TNI officer insisted on saying that the suspect with the initials AR who was detained by the police was innocent, even according to him the detention did not have strong evidence.

The personnel who carried out the picket at that time immediately gave an answer, while explaining the legal procedures that had been carried out in the case of the detention of the suspect in question.

After listening to the explanation from the picket personnel, the TNI officer who was later assigned to the Military Command (Korem) 133 Nani Wartabone Gorontalo, finally understood the provisions for handling legal cases involving his family.

Currently, the suspect AR is undergoing a period of detention due to legal entanglement, in the case of alleged Sexual Violence (TPKS).

In addition, he said, the Gorontalo Police had also coordinated with the 133th Korem Nani Wartabone and officially confirmed that the issue or incident was only a misunderstanding and officially stated that the problem had been resolved properly.

"This problem has been resolved and we urge the public to remain calm or not easily provoked or quickly believe in information that is not necessarily clear," said Desmont.

Previously, since Saturday evening, there were widespread social media related to a video recording showing the location in front of the Gorontalo Police's Detention and Evidence Room (Tahti), namely a man asking local officers to release his family who was detained.

In the video, there was a debate between a man who claimed to be a member of the TNI and local police personnel.
