US Considers Attacking Iran as Soon as This Week

JAKARTA - The United States (US) is considering the possibility of carrying out an attack on Iran.

The attack was aimed at Iranian officials and commanders who Washington says were involved in the deaths of protesters.

This was conveyed by a source in one of the Gulf countries to the Middle East Eye media, quoted by Tass on Tuesday, January 27.

According to the source, the US is likely to carry out an attack on Iran as early as this week, although the time of the attack is still under discussion.

Discussions about Iran's potential response were colored by a long debate, according to the source.

A former US intelligence official told Middle East Eye that, based on his understanding of the discussions within the US Government, US President Donald Trump "has not given up on pushing for a 'regime change' in Tehran [Iran]."

Previously, Trump in an interview told Axios that the US had sent a large naval force near Iran. Trump believes that with his policy Iran will be submissive to make a potential deal with Washington.

Iran's Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmail Baghaei said the Iranian military had been alertly observing all US military activities near its country and was actively taking steps to strengthen its defenses.
