Kepri Police Foil Smuggling of 70 Tons of Frozen Meat from Singapore
BATAM - The Riau Islands Regional Police (Polda Kepri) thwarted the smuggling of nearly 70 tons of frozen meat in the waters of Moro District, Karimun Regency.
"We secured two Indonesian-flagged ships in the Moro area, both of which carried meat and other goods," said Head of Sub-Directorate I of the Special Criminal Investigation Directorate (Ditreskrimsus) of the North Sumatra Police, AKBP Paksi Eka Saputra, as reported by ANTARA, Tuesday, January 27.
He said that the investigation was still underway by his subordinates. The ship has also arrived in Batam for the weighing of the cargo it was carrying.
"Temporary data, the ship carries frozen beef, pork and chicken meat, including other cargo, such as bicycles and there are also balpres.
"The meat comes from Brazil," he said.
The ship, he continued, is a wooden ship with a size of 113 gross tonnage (GT), sailing from Singapore, entering the waters of Kepri.
Paksi revealed that the ship was planning to head to Pekanbaru and Jambi.
"Their goal is to go to Pekanbaru and Jambi," he said.
Currently, his party is still investigating the two ships because they are related to the Quarantine Law and the Trade Law.
