Apple Releases Important Update for iPhone 5s and iPhone 6
Apple has quietly released updates for its devices that are several years old. This update was released for the iPhone 5s and iPhone 6 via iOS 12.5.8.
The launch of this software is not done to address bugs or other vulnerabilities. Apple just wants to extend the life of the two devices even though the fact is that these devices can no longer run many applications.
This update is very rare because Apple tends to ignore its devices when they enter the category of Obsolete. Moreover, the standard life of a smartphone usually does not reach a dozen years.
Based on Apple's official records, this update is focused on updating the device's internal security certificates. These certificates play an important role in running basic system functions so that the phone can continue to operate normally.
Core services such as iMessage, FaceTime, and device activation are heavily reliant on these security certificates. If users don't update, these services could stop working entirely.
The old security certificate is scheduled to expire in January 2027. Without further updates, the phone can only turn on without having communication functions.
Similar support is also given to the iPhone 6s which was released in 2015 through the iOS 15.8.6 version update. This step shows that Apple is keeping its old hardware ecosystem safe while in use.
