JAKARTA - Former Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives Adies Kadir officially became a candidate for the Constitutional Court (MK) proposed by the House of Representatives after receiving the unanimous approval today.

The DPR leadership said Adies had undergone all the mechanisms in Commission III of the DPR in accordance with applicable regulations, including the suitability and propriety or fit and proper test.

"Regarding the nomination of Mr. Adies as a constitutional judge, it has indeed been processed in Commission III, the fit and proper test has been carried out and it has indeed been determined," said Deputy Speaker of the DPR Saan Mustopa at the DPR building, Senayan, Jakarta, Tuesday, January 27.

"Well, the second one is related to Mr. Sensi, Mr. Sensi has another assignment. So there is another assignment and this is also in the process," he said.

Saan assessed that it was reasonable for the public to have concerns about the DPR's proposed judges considering the criminal case in the Constitutional Court that dragged the names of Patrialis Akbar and Akil Mochtar. However, he guaranteed that Adies would carry out his duties as a constitutional judge.

"Yes, if you are worried, I think it is normal, because there are indeed two experiences before. But the experience of the two cases in the Constitutional Court, I am sure this will be a learning process, and we will take the wisdom from the two incidents, so that what we set today will Insyaallah will maintain its credibility, maintain its integrity, and will prioritize its professionalism as constitutional judges," said Saan.

"So we are confident that Mr. Adies will carry out this trust with integrity, maintain credibility, and also once again be professional, because Mr. Adis also has a background in the legal field," continued the NasDem politician.

As for the reason for choosing Adies Kadir as the candidate for the Supreme Court judge proposed by the DPR, according to Saan, because the Golkar Deputy Secretary was an expert in the field of law. In fact, he had been the head of Commission III of the DPR which dealt with law.

"Mr. Adies is a law professor, a law doctor, and indeed what he is doing in his academic field is indeed in law and in the DPR as well as in Commission III. So the leadership from the beginning of the entry has become a member of Commission III and the leadership of Commission III," said Saan.

"From the perspective of what experience, academic track record, I believe Mr. Adis is very adequate to become a constitutional judge," he concluded.
