Smart #2 Ready to Debut at the 2026 Beijing Auto Show, Mass Production to Begin Soon

JAKARTA - Electric cars from Geely and Mercedes-Benz, namely Smart#2, will make their debut at the 2026 Beijing Motor Show in April, and will be available in Europe by the end of the year.

Citing the Carnewschina website, Tuesday, January 27, the first Smart #2 was introduced in China in early September as the fourth model in the brand's electric vehicle (EV) line. It should be noted that Smart is currently a 50-50 joint venture between Geely and Mercedes-Benz, which was established in 2019.

Smart revealed that the pre-production prototype #2 will make its public debut at the 2026 Beijing Motor Show at the end of April. This car will use the new ECA architecture and offer two doors, two seats, and a drive system developed by Geely. The Mercedes-Benz team will be responsible for the exterior design of the Smart #2.

Currently, the car is in the final development stage, because it had previously been seen during road tests in December 2025 which indeed indicates that it will soon be present.

Previously, Smart's global CEO, Tong Xiangbei, said that making a microcar is more complex than developing a large car. At the same time, Smart Europe president Dirk Adelmann revealed that the company would ensure the model's profitability.

In December 2025, Smart representatives said that Smart #2 would begin mass production "in a few months". It is possible that this model will enter the market shortly after its prototype is presented at the Beijing Auto Show.

According to previous information, Smart #2 will adopt a single electric motor on the rear axle and a 30 kWh battery. It is about 2.7 meters long. The wheelbase reaches 1.9 meters. The presence of Smart #2 aims to increase the brand's sales in China.
