Maintain BI Independence, Thomas Djiwandono Resigns from Gerindra Starting December 31, 2025

JAKARTA - Deputy Governor of Bank Indonesia (BI) elected Thomas Djiwandono confirmed that he was no longer serving as General Treasurer (Bendum) of the Gerindra Party and was no longer a member of the party founded by Prabowo Subianto.

The confirmation was conveyed by Thomas when undergoing a fit and proper test as a candidate for Deputy Governor of the BI before Commission XI of the Indonesian House of Representatives, Monday, January 26.

The clarification was made to answer questions from Member of Commission XI of the Indonesian House of Representatives from the Golkar Party Faction, Muhidin M Said.

Thomas explained that he had resigned from the position of General Treasurer of the Gerindra Party since March 2025.

"I need to clarify that the most early question from Mr. Muhidin from the Golkar Party is whether I am still serving as general treasurer, the answer is no sir and that is since March 2025, where I am no longer I decided to ask for permission also because at that time I was still at the Ministry of Finance I asked for permission not to be the general treasurer, because I have been 17 years, so there needs to be regeneration," he said.

He has also officially resigned as a member of the Gerindra Party as of December 31, 2025.

According to him, this step is a form of commitment to the independence of Bank Indonesia and professionalism in carrying out its duties.

"I am also not a member of Gerindra as of December 31, 2025 and this is my commitment to the independence of Bank Indonesia but my sense of professionalism," he explained.

During the meeting, the Chairman of Commission XI of the Indonesian House of Representatives, Mukhamad Misbakhun, asked for the resignation letter to be shown.

In response to this, Thomas immediately showed the resignation letter which had been officially issued by him and ratified by the Central Leadership Council (DPP) of the Gerindra Party.

"It's official, sir, the official letter of my resignation and from the DPP Gerindra," he said.
