Kremlin Reveals Russia-Ukraine Talks in Abu Dhabi to Resume Next Week

JAKARTA - Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov revealed on Monday that Russian and Ukrainian talks with US mediation to achieve peace will continue next week in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates, after negotiations last weekend.

Speaking at a news conference in Moscow, Peskov said a date had not been set, although US media reported talks could resume on February 1 (Sunday), with the location remaining in Abu Dhabi.

"It is planned for next week. I cannot mention the exact date at this time," he said, launching Anadolu (26/1).

Assessing the initial results, Peskov warned that it would be premature to expect high effectiveness from the initial trilateral contact, given the complexity of the issues involved.

"The territorial issue, which is part of the 'Anchorage Formula', of course has fundamental significance for the Russian side. Our negotiators continue to defend our interests," he explained.

It is known that Russia and Ukraine held consultations for two days on January 23-24 in Abu Dhabi, with Washington's mediation.

The US government described the talks as "constructive" in order to end the Russian-Ukrainian war that broke out in February 2022.

Although no agreement was reached at the meeting, both Kyiv and Moscow are open to continuing the dialogue.
