Ketapang Fire in West Kalimantan Burns 14.3 Hectare of Mineral Land

JAKARTA - The National Disaster Management Agency (BNPB) received a report of a forest and land fire (karhutla) in Ketapang Regency, West Kalimantan (Kalbar), which burned 14.3 hectares of mineral land.

"The fire occurred on Sunday (25/1) at around 14.00 WIB," said Head of the BNPB Disaster Data, Information and Communication Center, Abdul Muhari, as reported by ANTARA, Monday, January 26.

The BNPB Operations Control Center (Pusdalops) confirmed that the karhutla incident occurred in four villages spread across three sub-districts in Ketapang Regency.

The affected villages include Sungai Awan Village in Muara Pawan District, Kuala Village and Kuala Satong Village in North Matan Hilir District, and Sungai Nanjung Village in South Matan Hilir District.

Abdul confirmed that based on the temporary data received by BNPBluas, the land that burned as a result of the incident reached around 14.3 hectares.

However, in the statement there was no report from BNPB about the cause of the forest fire, whether it was due to weather anomalies due to low rainfall or intervention due to human negligence.

However, Abdul ensured that the joint team of officers coordinated by the Ketapang Regency Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) had made efforts to extinguish the fire at the scene.

"The joint team is also continuing to coordinate intensively to ensure that the fire can be controlled and does not spread to other areas," said Abdul Muhari.
