AS Roma Frustrate AC Milan to Approach Inter Milan

JAKARTA - AS Roma thwarted AC Milan's attempt to reduce the points gap with Inter Milan after forcing a 1-1 draw in an Italian Serie A match at the Olympic Stadium, Monday, January 26, 2026 WIB.

The competition in the Serie A competition is getting closer. Inter alone leads the standings after leaving his competitors. When Inter showed consistency by slaughtering Pisa 6-1, Napoli suffered a defeat when visiting Juventus' home. Napoli, which was handled by former Juve player and coach Antonio Conte, was forced to surrender 3-0.

Milan, who are in second place, hope to cut the points gap with Inter. The opportunity to get three points was open when Koni De Winter broke into the Roma goal. However, Milan's advantage only lasted 12 minutes. Roma, who acted as hosts in the big match, were able to equalize through a penalty from Lorenzo Pellegrini.

The draw makes Milan, who only got an extra point, finally get 47 points. They are five points behind Inter who are more comfortable occupying the top of the standings.

Meanwhile, Roma, who had previously been thrown out of the top four, was able to break into the Champions League zone. Now, the Giallorossi are in third place with 43 points. The same as Napoli, but Roma still has a goal difference. This makes Napoli drop to fourth place. They are threatened by Juve who are only one point behind.

Milan's match against Roma itself was tight. Both teams took turns to pressure. Roma got a good chance through Zeki Celik. But goalkeeper Mike Maignan made a brilliant save so that Roma failed to score.

As the match progressed, it became tighter for an hour, Milan finally broke the deadlock. It started with veteran midfielder Luka Modric's corner kick who gave the ball to Davide Bartesaghi and then returned it to Modric.

The former Real Madrid midfielder and Croatia national team captain then released a cross ball which was greeted with a header from De Winter. His hard header was successful in defeating goalkeeper Mile Svilar.

The goal that was created in the 62nd minute gave Milan a 1-0 lead. However, Roma immediately bounced back to catch up.

After many failed attempts, the home team finally got the result when Wesley delivered a cross to the Milan goal that hit Bartesaghi's hand. The referee immediately pointed to the spot because of Bartesaghi's handball. The penalty was executed by Lorenzo Pellegrini in the 74th minute.

The score changed 1-1. There were no additional goals from both teams so they had to settle for sharing points in the big match. Coach Gian Piero Gasperini was a little disappointed because Roma failed to win the match.

"If we score first, the chances of winning are certainly more open," Gasperini said, as quoted by france24.

"In the standings, Milan is the best team in the league. But we played better. If we concede a few goals, this shows our hard work and how to implement the strategy well," he said.

Meanwhile, Milan coach Massimiliano Allegri remained satisfied despite only getting one point. Once we were ahead, the game seemed to go as expected until the incident happened. We still got a positive result when we came to the Olimpico. Being able to get points here is certainly very important," said Allegri.
