Sorloth Goes Wild, Atletico Close to Barcelona After 3-0 Mallorca
JAKARTA - Atletico Madrid won a convincing 3-0 victory over Real Mallorca in the 21st week of the 2025/26 Spanish League at the Civitas Metropolitano, Sunday, January 25 WIB.
The three winning goals were scored by Alexander Sorloth, a self-goal by David Lopez, and Thiago Almada. The additional three points brought Atletico to 44 points and cut the gap with second-placed Barcelona to five points.
Los Rojiblancos are also seven points behind Real Madrid who are still at the top of the table. Meanwhile, Real Mallorca remains in 16th place with 21 points, as reported on the official LaLiga website.
Atletico opened the lead in the 22nd minute through Alexander Sorloth. The goal started from a volley kick by Marcos Llorente which was deflected by Mallorca goalkeeper Leo Roman.
Sorloth immediately snatched the ball from close range to give Atletico a 1-0 lead. The score remained until halftime.
Entering the second half, Atletico continued to dominate. Pablo Barrios and Sorloth again created chances, but Leo Roman made several important saves under the Mallorca goalpost.
The second goal finally came in the 75th minute. Marcos Llorente's cross from the right was misjudged by David Lopez and ended up in a suicide goal that made Atletico widen the lead to 2-0.
The home team's victory was confirmed in the 87th minute through Thiago Almada's goal. Taking advantage of a loose ball from a corner kick, Almada poked from the second line before firing a hard shot that Leo Roman couldn't stop. The score remained 3-0 until the final whistle.
With this result, Atletico continues to maintain the competition at the top of the standings, while Mallorca still has to fight to stay away from the relegation zone.
