Apik Raymond/Joaquin debut at Indonesia Masters 2026

JAKARTA - The badminton pair of Raymond Indra/Nikolaus Joaquin managed to win the runner-up of the 2026 Indonesia Masters men's doubles held at Istora Senayan, Jakarta, on January 20-26, 2026. This achievement completes the brilliant record of the coaching of young Indonesian athletes supported by PT Bank Negara Indonesia (Persero) Tbk or BNI.

BNI Corporate Secretary Okki Rushartomo assessed that Raymond Indra/Nikolaus Joaquin's achievement at the 2026 Indonesia Masters was inseparable from the well-established coaching ecosystem, ranging from early age coaching, tiered competitions, to the support of various parties in creating a growing space for young athletes.

"This achievement is an important capital for young athletes to continue to improve the quality of the game and readiness to compete at the world level," Okki said in a written statement.

BNI support was also present at a historic moment for the Raymond/Joaquin pair who had just made their debut at the 2026 Indonesia Masters, and immediately made a proud achievement at the world-class tournament held in their own country.

Nikolaus Joaquin or who is familiarly called Joaquin was born in Jakarta on September 14, 2005 and is now 20 years old. He started badminton at the age of six by idolizing Fajar Alfian as an inspiration. Joaquin officially joined the PBSI Pelatnas in 2025 after previously partnering with several players, including Muhammad Al Farizi to Verrel Yustin Mulia.

Meanwhile, Raymond Indra was born in Bandung 21 years ago. He joined the PBSI Pelatnas in 2025 and is known as a talented player with stable game control and tight defense. His young career started from local badminton clubs since elementary school age before finally breaking into the national level and getting the opportunity to appear in various international tournaments.

Since being paired, Raymond/Joaquin has shown significant progress. In addition to defending the 2025 BWF Indonesia Masters Super 100 title, last year this pair also managed to become runners-up at the 2025 Korea Masters and champions at the 2025 Australian Open. They are known to have a solid defense that often makes opponents difficult to develop an attack pattern.

The combination of these performances has made Raymond/Joaquin to be dubbed as Kevin Sanjaya/Marcus Gideon's successor. In addition to being handled by the same coach, Chafidz Yusuf, both are also known to have an aggressive and fast game character, a hallmark of Indonesia's world-class men's doubles pair.

Okki added that BNI has been a partner of PBSI for more than five years and has consistently contributed to supporting the training and regeneration of athletes in various age groups, including strengthening the national program which is the foundation for the birth of world-class athletes.

"We hope that this achievement can be an inspiration for other young athletes to continue to develop and bring the name of Indonesia to the international arena," added Okki.

Through this continued support, BNI continues to strengthen its commitment in guiding the birth of a new generation that is ready to maintain Indonesia as one of the main forces in world badminton.
