Viral Theft of PJU Cable, Police Investigate the Dimmer of the Street Lamp in Cilincing

JAKARTA - The Public Street Lighting Cable (PJU) on Cilincing Highway, North Jakarta, is suspected of being stolen by a gang of thieves. The police are now intervening to investigate.

The alleged theft came to light after a video went viral on social media (medsos) Instagram. In the footage, paving blocks on the side of the road were dismantled, while cables connected to the PJU pole were reported missing.

Video recorders suspect that the loss of the PJU cable is the cause of the streetlights going out along Jalan Raya Cilincing. This condition is said to have occurred for some time and has caused concern among residents.

In response to this, the head of the Koja Police, Kompol Andry Suharto, confirmed that his party had learned about the video that had circulated on social media.

"We have been monitoring and are currently still under investigation," Andry said when contacted, Sunday, January 25, 2026.

Although there has been no police report from the victim, Andry emphasized that the investigation is still being carried out and is not waiting for an official report.

"There is no police report yet, but we are still investigating to find out who the perpetrator is," he said.

Meanwhile, the Head of the Criminal Investigation Unit of the Koja Police, North Jakarta Police, AKP Fernando, added that his party was gathering information related to the alleged theft of the PJU cable.

"Yes, while we have received that information and are still investigating," he said briefly.*
