Flood Impact Mitigation, Pramono Offers Relocation of Rawa Buaya Residents to Rusun

JAKARTA - DKI Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung has announced a temporary relocation to a flat (flat) as a medium-term solution for residents of Rawa Buaya Village, Cengkareng, West Jakarta who were affected by flooding. Furthermore, improvements to facilities and drainage will be carried out.

"It is impossible to just use a pump to move water. The medium-term solution is that they must be willing to develop apartment houses and the place (long-term) then be repaired," said Pramono in Jakarta, Sunday, quoting ANTARA.

According to Pramono, the number of refugees in Rawa Buaya is the most compared to other areas in Jakarta. When visiting the location of the Rawa Buaya refugees on Saturday (24/1), Pramono had offered this solution.

This Sunday, the DKI BPBD recorded 131 families or 480 people at the evacuation location. Meanwhile, the flood in Rawa Buaya has receded.

In addition to Buaya Swamp, a number of areas in West Jakarta are known to be severely affected by flooding. This condition is influenced by the water supply from upstream areas, especially from Tangerang and South Tangerang, through a number of rivers, such as the Angke River, Pesanggrahan, and Mookervart which flow into Cengkareng Drain.

The water level in Cengkareng Drain has decreased from 350 to 315, while the safe limit is at 310.

On the other hand, the current flooding is more caused by extreme rainfall reaching an average of 200 millimeters per day, even up to 260 millimeters in some places.

As for dealing with flooding in the West Jakarta area, the DKI Provincial Government (Pemprov) has deployed 152 stationary pumps, 49 pump houses, 76 mobile pumps, and 60 floating or portable pumps.

In addition, heavy equipment in the form of 99 dump trucks, 3 cranes, 6 combi jetting, 59 excavators, 1 self loader, and 1 wheel loader were also used. A total of four assistance pumps were also deployed from the North Jakarta and Central Jakarta Sub-Directorates of Natural Resources and Environment to accelerate flood handling.

The DKI Jakarta Provincial Government also provides health posts and social services for residents who have been displaced at various points.
