Ball Possession Dominance, Bayern Munich Still Loses to Augsburg 1-2

JAKARTA - Bayern Munich suffered a shocking defeat to Augsburg 1-2 in the opening match of the 19th week of the German Bundesliga League played on Saturday, January 24, which also affected the top competition and relegation zone.

Bayern's defeat came when they hosted Augsburg at the Allianz Arena, when Vincent Kompany's team lost 1-2 despite taking the lead first and dominating possession throughout the match.

Bayern opened the scoring through a header from Hiroki Ito in the first half after taking advantage of a cross from Michael Olise from a dead ball situation, but the dominance failed to follow with the effectiveness of the final finish, including from Harry Kane who appeared below his best performance.

Augsburg bounced back in the second half and equalised through Arthur Chaves' header, before Han-Noah Massengo turned the tide in the final minutes after maximising space in the Bayern penalty area, securing the visitors' victory.

Meanwhile, RB Leipzig ended their record of no away wins by defeating Heidenheim 3-0 at the Voith-Arena, a result that brought Leipzig into the top four of the Bundesliga standings.

Leipzig scored all their goals in the second half through Ridle Baku, Antonio Nusa, and David Raum, after several of their chances were ruled offside and thwarted by the opposing goalkeeper.

In other matches, Bayer Leverkusen secured a narrow 1-0 victory over Werder Bremen, Mainz defeated Wolfsburg 3-1, while Eintracht Frankfurt had to admit Hoffenheim's advantage with a score of 1-3 at home.

The Hamburg derby between FC St. Pauli and Hamburger SV ended goalless, a result that left both teams still in the bottom half of the table and not far from relegation.

With these results, Bayern still leads the standings with 50 points from 19 matches, but their advantage could be cut, while Leipzig, Hoffenheim, and Leverkusen continue to compete closely for the European competition tickets.
