2 Cyclones Come Together, Indonesia is Ready for Rain and Lightning Today
JAKARTA - The majority of major cities in Indonesia are potentially hit by light and cloudy rain today, Sunday, January 25, as reported by the weather forecast from the Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG).
BMKG weather practitioner, Wahyu Anisa, quoted by Antara, Sunday morning, said that the potential for light-intensity rain was expected to rain on Pekanbaru, Bengkulu, Pangkal Pinang, Palembang, Bandar Lampung, Serang, Bandung, Yogyakarta, Surabaya, Tanjung Selor, Surabaya, Mataram, Kupang, Makassar, Mamuju, Manokwari, Jayapura, and Jayawijaya.
Furthermore, in Banda Aceh, Medan, Pontianak, Tanjung Pinang, Jambi, Padang, Semarang, Banjarmasin, Samarinda, Denpasar, Palu, Gorontalo, Manado, Ternate, Ambon, and Sorong, it is estimated that it will be thick clouds to fog.
For Jakarta and Nabire, moderate rain is predicted. And rain accompanied by lightning in Merauke.
According to BMKG, the combination of atmospheric dynamics is one of the factors that affect the weather conditions, following the results of meteorological monitoring, two cyclones were found to have a direct and indirect impact on the potential for rain in Indonesia.
Tropical Cyclone Luana is observed in the southern Indian Ocean, East Nusa Tenggara, with a maximum wind speed of 35 knots, moving towards the southern Indian Ocean of Java Island.
Tropical Cyclone 92B is predicted to be around the Gulf of Carpentaria south of South Papua and move into Australian territory in the next 48 hours.
The combination of the effects of these phenomena is estimated by the BMKG meteorological team to cause the potential for moderate to heavy rain, accompanied by lightning/thunderstorms.
BMKG assesses that people are aware of such conditions that can also cause the impact of extreme weather disasters in hydro-meteorology, including floods, flash floods, tornadoes, landslides, and so on, along with the peak season for the rainy season until February.
