DKI Government Issues Circular on WFH and School From Home Due to Extreme Rainfall

JAKARTA - Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung stated that he had approved the policy of working from home or work from home (WFH) and school from home or school from home. A circular letter has been issued following the recent extreme rainfall conditions.

This was conveyed by Pramono when reviewing flood-affected residents who had evacuated at the Baitul Rahmat Mosque, Rawa Buaya Village, Cengkareng District, West Jakarta, today, January 24.

"Because of this extreme rainfall, we have agreed on the work from home and school from home policies, and the circular has been issued by the Education Office and the Manpower Office," said Pramono, quoted from the official written statement of the Jakarta Provincial Government.

Pramono further stated that there were a number of steps taken to deal with extreme rain in Jakarta. Among them is to carry out weather modification operations (OMC).

"The main goal is to reduce rainfall so that displaced people can immediately return to their respective homes," he said.

As for medium and long-term handling, Pramono has ordered the normalization of three major rivers, namely the Ciliwung River, the Krukut River, and the Old Cakung River. Then he also asked for the cleaning of water channels and appealed to the public not to throw garbage indiscriminately.

"Without joint efforts, flooding has the potential to recur. The government and the community must work together to maintain the environment," said the former Minister of the Cabinet of the 7th President of the Republic of Indonesia, Joko Widodo (Jokowi).

Meanwhile, for victims affected by flooding, Pramono said that West Jakarta was the most severe because of the water supply from upstream areas, especially Tangerang and South Tangerang through the Angke River, Pesanggrahan, and Mookervart which flows into Cengkareng Drain.

In handling floods in the West Jakarta area, 152 stationary pumps, 49 pump houses, 76 mobile pumps, and 60 floating or portable pumps have been deployed.

In addition, heavy equipment in the form of 99 dump trucks, 3 cranes, 6 combi jetting, 59 excavators, 1 self loader, and 1 wheel loader were also deployed. A total of four assistance pumps were also deployed from the North Jakarta and Central Jakarta Sub-Directorates of Natural Resources and Environment to accelerate flood handling.

"The community hopes that the water will soon recede. For this reason, I have ordered the Head of the Water Resources Office to add pumps. Currently, there are four additional pumps, so that the total number of pumps at this location is seven units," concluded Pramono.
