Manchester City are on the wrong track, hoping to return to the right track against Wolves

JAKARTA - Pep Guardiola said he felt everything went wrong for Manchester City after their surprise defeat to Bodo/Glimt on Wednesday, January 21, 2026, early morning WIB. However, he believes his players can turn things around.

A few days after a poor performance that led to Manchester Derby's 0-2 defeat to Manchester United rivals at Old Trafford, things did not improve for the Citizens when they lost 1-3 to the Norwegian team.

Kasper Hogh scored twice in three minutes midway through the first half and Manchester City were never able to equalise, trailing 0-3 after a stunning goal from Jens Petter Hauge in the second half.

Rayan Cherki scored an equaliser shortly afterwards, but hopes of an unlikely comeback were extinguished when Rodri committed two fouls which resulted in two yellow cards within seconds and he was sent off in the 62nd minute.

Manchester City's last seven wins have come in the Carabao Cup and FA Cup. The rest, three draws and one defeat in the last four league games, began with a 0-0 draw at Sunderland on New Year's Day.

"It all turned a little against us because of a lot of things. When we started (the) New Year at Sunderland, we lost what we needed and then we started to have injuries."

"Matheus (Nunes) who has a flu can't be with us, so there are a lot of things against (us). At that level, the Champions League or Manchester United at the highest level, it's always more difficult to have the consistency we had - one, two months, winning seven, eight games."

"Now, okay, we have lost an important player, we have lost a little bit, but in general the mood of the team is much better than the last one," said Guardiola.

The defeat to Bodo/Glimt leaves Manchester City seventh in the Champions League standings, with a final league phase match next week at home against Galatasaray.

Meanwhile, they are seven points behind leaders Arsenal in the English League. However, Guardiola hopes Manchester City will get back on track when they face Wolverhampton Wanderers at the Etihad Stadium on Saturday, January 24, 2026.

"I feel the results since 2025 have not been good in terms of the English League and now (here). Now we have a game against Wolves and after that there is Galatasaray. We'll see what happens."

"It's a great opportunity for us, but everything feels wrong, against us in a lot of details. That's a fact and you have to try to change it, but the players are there and we'll try."

"I have no doubt at all in this tournament. In the English League, nothing is certain. The Manchester United players were better when they beat us. (In the Champions League) they punished us with momentum, but our team was able to create opportunities," said Guardiola.
