Maruarar Sirait and the Governor of West Papua discuss the Decent Housing Program

JAKARTA - Minister of Housing and Spatial Planning (PKP) Maruarar Sirait together with the Governor of West Papua, Elisa Kambu, discussed a number of national housing programs, including assistance for decent housing and People's Business Loans (KUR) for Housing in a meeting of the PKP Ministry.

Minister of PKP Maruarar Sirait explained that there were a number of programs of President Prabowo Subianto which were carried out through the PKP Ministry, one of which was the arrangement of slums through the improvement of infrastructure, facilities and infrastructure, as well as the provision of decent housing.

"In addition to slum area arrangements, there is also a Self-Help Housing Stimulus Assistance (BSPS) or house surgery program. These programs will be implemented in all districts and cities, including in the South West Papua Province," said Maruarar, quoted by Antara.

He emphasized that according to the President's instructions, all regions in Indonesia are entitled to receive the housing program. "According to the President's instructions, all districts and cities throughout Indonesia have this program, including West Papua," he said.

The Minister of PKP also explained about the Housing KUR, which is the flagship program of the President and has been launched in October 2025 to support the target of building three million houses.

According to him, the Housing KUR is a housing program loan that provides working capital or investment financing for MSMEs in the housing ecosystem, such as developers, building stores, contractors, and individual MSMEs to buy, build, or renovate houses that support businesses, with interest subsidies from the government.

"KUR Perumahan is the first program in Indonesia involving three ministries, namely the Coordinating Ministry for Economic Affairs, the Ministry of Finance, and the Ministry of PKP," he explained.

He added that the purpose of the Housing KUR is to develop the MSME-based housing sector, support the target of building three million houses, and expand access to financing on the supply and demand sides of housing.

Therefore, the Minister of PKP asked the West Papua Provincial Government (Pemprov) to immediately prepare administrative requirements, including regional data and prospective beneficiaries, so that they can obtain the program.

Meanwhile, the Governor of West Papua, Elisa Kambu, appreciated the opportunity for an audience with the Minister of PKP and his staff.

"In the meeting, we received a lot of important information regarding the housing program and the central government's commitment to improving the welfare of the community, especially those who are less fortunate," said Elisa.

Elisa expressed optimism that South West Papua would get a share of national programs in the housing sector. He emphasized that the local government would immediately prepare all the requirements requested by the Ministry of Public Housing.

"We will prepare the location and list the people who are eligible to receive assistance. After that we will meet again with the Minister to present the needs and readiness of South West Papua," he said.

Governor Elisa hopes that although the housing assistance program is national, West Papua can become one of the priority areas for the benefit of the central government housing program.
