Minister of Foreign Affairs Explains the Reason for Indonesia to Become a Member of Trump's World Peace Council
JAKARTA - Indonesia has officially joined as a member of the Board of Peace or the World Peace Council formed by US President Donald Trump. This decision was taken by President Prabowo Subianto as a form of Indonesia's active commitment to maintaining global stability, especially supporting Palestinian peace and independence.
"This Board of Peace is an international body tasked with monitoring the administration of stabilization and rehabilitation efforts, especially in Gaza, Palestine," said Foreign Minister (Menlu) Sugiono in a statement quoted on Saturday, January 24, 2026.
Sugiono explained that the Board of Peace is an international body tasked with monitoring the stabilization process and rehabilitation efforts, especially in Gaza, Palestine. So, Indonesia's joining is a strategic thing so that it can be directly involved in the decision-making process.
Moreover, said Sugiono, Indonesia continues to be involved and consistently voicing the importance of Palestinian peace.
Therefore, when the charter of the Peace Council was signed in a relatively quick process, President Prabowo decided that Indonesia must be in it.
"The presence of the Board of Peace is a concrete and tangible step after a long time so that the peace efforts really lead to Palestinian independence and a two-state solution," he said.
Furthermore, Indonesia also joined to guide the direction of the Peace Council's policies to remain in line with the big goal, namely the independence of Palestine and the realization of a two-state solution.
Indonesia's presence is also considered important to provide input, advice, and political influence so that the steps taken are real and sustainable. Moreover, the Peace Council offers a real mechanism that gives realistic hope for peace so that Indonesia's membership will continue to be utilized.
The World Peace Council (BoP) was formed as an international body as a result of an agreement between a number of countries that were initially involved in discussing the situation in Palestine. This initiative was born from a series of meetings of Islamic countries and countries with a Muslim majority population, which agreed to involve the international community more broadly to promote permanent peace in Gaza.
The formation of this body is also a follow-up to a follow-up meeting in Egypt, which then culminated in the signing of the charter establishing the body. This council is designed to carry out the functions of monitoring stabilization, transition administration, and post-conflict rehabilitation in a measurable and sustainable manner.
Indonesia is listed as one of the 20 founding members of the Board of Peace, along with Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, Qatar, Jordan, Turkey, Pakistan, and Egypt. The founding charter of the World Peace Council was signed by the President of the Republic of Indonesia Prabowo Subianto on the sidelines of the World Economic Forum (WEF) held in Davos, Switzerland, Thursday, January 22, 2026.
