Karawang Regency Government Asks Residents Living Near River to Evacuate

KARAWANG - Flooding hit 20 of the 30 sub-districts in Karawang Regency, West Java (Jabar), due to the overflowing of the Citarum and Cibeet rivers. The Karawang Regency Government (Pemkab) asked all residents living near the river to evacuate.

"On Saturday at 01.20 WIB, the status of the Citarum and Cibeet rivers was in the Alert status. So all residents who live near the river must immediately evacuate," said Karawang Regent Aep Syaepuloh as reported by ANTARA, Saturday, January 24.

The party together with Forkopimda ensured that all people in the riverbanks had been evacuated to safer places.

Until this morning, the flood disaster in the Karawang area was getting worse. Previously, the flood only hit 13 sub-districts, now it has spread to 20 sub-districts. This data is in accordance with the record of the Karawang Regional Disaster Management Agency as of Friday evening (23/1) at 21.00 WIB.

Currently, the flood has submerged 9,650 houses spread across 58 villages/villages in 20 sub-districts around Karawang.

The number of people affected by the flood reached 10,927 heads of households (KK), consisting of 31,601 adult souls, 969 toddlers, 111 babies, and 599 elderly, with 1,198 people displaced in a number of evacuation points that have been prepared by the local government.

The worst flooding occurred in Karangligar Village with water levels reaching almost two meters.

A total of 20 sub-districts in the Karawang area that are now flooded include:

East Karawang District (East Adiarsa, Plawad and Palumbonsari Village) West Karawang District (Karangpawitan, Mekarjati, Tanjungpura, Tanjungmekar, Karawang Kulon and West Adiarsa Villages) Rengasdengklok District (Kertasari Village, North Rengasdengklok, Kalangsari and South Rengasdengklok Villages) Klari District (Duren and Pancawati Villages) West Telukjamari District (Sukamakmur Village) Cilamaya Wetan District (Tegalwaru, Rawagempol, Sukamerta, Sukapura, Pasirkaliki, Panyingkiran, Purwamekar and Balongsari Villages) Majalaya District (Majalaya and Pasir Jengkol Villages) Lemahabang District (Pulojaya Village) Purwasari District (Sukasari Village) Tempuran District (Lemahsubur, Dayeuhluhur, Purwajaya, Jayanegara, Lemahkarya, Pagadungan, Tanjungjaya, and Lemahmakmur Villages) Kutawaluya District (Sindangmukti Village).

Regent Asep appealed to all residents of Karawang to obey the orders of the evacuation team on the ground. This must be done for the sake of our health and safety in the midst of the increasingly widespread flood disaster.
