BNPB: Flooding is Almost Evenly Distributed in Jakarta, Banten and NTB

JAKARTA - The National Disaster Management Agency (BNPB) recorded that floods almost evenly hit several areas in Banten Province, West Nusa Tenggara (NTB), and Jakarta due to high-intensity and long-lasting rains in the past week.

Head of the BNPB Disaster Data, Information, and Communication Center, Abdul Muhari, said that flooding occurred in areas with low-lying characteristics, densely populated settlements, and overflowing river basins.

The BNPB Operations Control Center reported that in Banten Province, flooding occurred in Tangerang Regency, which submerged 239 units of residents' houses in Kosambi Village, Kosambi District, and Cikande Village, Jayanti District.

"In this incident, two people were reported dead and one person was lightly injured," he said in a statement received in Jakarta, Friday, quoted by Antara.

Meanwhile, flooding in the city of Tangerang inundated eight sub-districts, namely Benda, Cibodas, Jatiuwung, Priuk, Karang Tengah, Pinang, Larangan, and Cipondoh.

"The current condition of the river or river discharge is still rising," he said, adding that as many as 21 people were reported to have been forced to evacuate to the Benda Tanggerang Fire Post while the number of affected houses was still in the process of data collection.

Abdul also reported data received by BNPB showing that flash floods in West Nusa Tenggara (NTB) Province hit Sumbawa Regency due to heavy rainfall. Until January 19, the flood had an impact on Plampang, Empang, Tarano, and Buer sub-districts with a total of 162 damaged houses and one educational facility affected.

Meanwhile, in Bima Regency, NTB on Thursday, January 22, flooding affected 54 houses in Labuan Kenanga Village, Tambora District. Then in West Lombok Regency, flooding submerged at least 67 units of residents' houses in Presak Hamlet, Meninting Village, Batu Layar District.

Likewise, for the flood that hit some areas of Jakarta, it was reported that it had again spread and on Friday, January 23, the afternoon, the flooded locations reached 143 Neighborhood Units (RT) and 16 roads.

This was obtained from the BPBD Jakarta report which confirmed that the current water level in several areas in West Jakarta such as in Kosambi and Rawa Buaya villages reached more than one meter. Likewise in South Jakarta, especially in Cipulir Village, the height reached 1.2 meters.

For all of that, Abdul ensured that the joint team of officers in each region was still on standby to accompany the affected residents, including the continued data collection on damage and urgent needs.

BNPB specifically appeals to local governments and the public to increase vigilance against the potential for subsequent flooding, especially for residents living on the banks of rivers and flood-prone areas, and to continue to monitor weather information from official government agencies.
