Chery to Build Independent Factory in Indonesia This Year, Vietnam to Proceed
Chery is increasingly emphasizing its seriousness in working on the Indonesian market. Not only focusing on sales, the Chinese manufacturer is also preparing long-term steps by building a vehicle ecosystem in the country, one of which is through the plan to build an independent factory this year.
President Director of Chery Group Indonesia Zheng Shuo, said Indonesia remained as one of the important production bases for Chery in the Southeast Asian region. Therefore, there must be an independent factory.
This statement comes amid news that Chery has also announced plans to build a factory in Vietnam this year, which is claimed to be the largest facility in Southeast Asia and an export hub to strengthen global sales. However, Zheng ensured that production plans in Indonesia continued on track.
"The production hub in Indonesia is not planned to change, we are working again. But that doesn't mean that if we have a factory in Indonesia, then we don't need another factory," said Zheng Shuo, when he was met at the Kelapa Gading area, North Jakarta, not long ago.
Zheng added that Chery's manufacturing strategy will adjust to the needs of each market. According to him, this approach is similar to the way Japanese manufacturers have many assembly facilities in several countries, with different models of production.
Currently, Chery is still utilizing assembly cooperation with Handal, but the construction of new facilities remains the company's main target.
"Now we are indeed working with Handal, but in the future we will have a new factory. Groundbreaking in Indonesia will still be this year, production in the next year," he said.
For your information, a number of Chery models that have been assembled locally at the Handal factory include the Chery E5, Chery Tiggo 8, to J6. Previously, Chery had also conveyed an investment commitment of Rp5 trillion, one of which was directed towards the expansion of the HIM factory in Pondok Ungu, Bekasi, West Java.
Although he emphasized that the construction of a self-sufficient factory was still included in the long-term plan and was ready to be realized, Zheng still did not reveal details regarding the location of the Chery assembly plant to be built in Indonesia.
