Israel Uses Cold Weather to Physically and Psychologically Torture Palestinian Prisoners

JAKARTA - The Palestinian Prisoners' Society (PPS) stated that the Israeli prison system has turned winter into a tool for systematic torture of prisoners and inmates through policies of depriving them of basic needs on an ongoing basis, especially clothing and heating.

This exacerbates their physical and psychological suffering, causing the spread of disease and weakening their bodies.

In a statement issued on Thursday, the PPS explained that since the beginning of the genocide, the policy of confiscating the personal belongings of prisoners and inmates, including clothing and all basic necessities, has been one of the first arbitrary acts carried out by the Israeli prison system, quoted from WAFA (23/1).

This policy, which was initially implemented as a collective punishment tool and systematic revenge, has evolved over time into an organized method of physical and psychological torture.

It said, more than two years after the genocide and comprehensive aggression that targeted prisoners and inmates, and turned the prison into a parallel genocide field, the prison system continues to use all kinds of tools to subdue and torture prisoners.

The PPS added that the concept of torture is no longer limited to an internationally recognized framework, but it has become impossible to limit its tools and methods, given the integrated repressive system that led to the martyrdom of more than a hundred prisoners and inmates, 87 of whom have had their identities announced, while the rest are still the subject of enforced disappearances.
