Thousands of Hektare Rice Fields in Karawang Submerged by Flood
KARAWANG - Thousands of hectares of rice fields spread across a number of areas around Karawang Regency, West Java are flooded due to the overflowing waters of the Citarum and Cibeet Rivers and flash floods.
Head of the Facilities Division of the Karawang Agriculture, Food Security and Fisheries Office, Mahmud, said thousands of hectares of rice fields had been flooded for the past few days.
According to the report on the results of monitoring in the field, there are 1,948 hectares of rice fields that are flooded, spread across 20 villages in seven sub-districts.
Flooding that submerged rice fields due to the overflowing of the Citarum and Cibeet Rivers and flash floods in the northern Karawang area.
The 1,928 hectares of flooded rice fields are rice crops that are in the day after planting phase and the day after sowing phase crops.
Along with the still high intensity of rain in the Karawang area, the local Agriculture, Food Security and Fisheries Office is still continuing to collect data on flooded rice fields.
The flood, which has been going on for the past few days, has submerged thousands of houses, a number of educational facilities, places of worship and public facilities to government offices.
The worst flood conditions occurred in the West Telukjambe area, specifically around Karangligar Village. The water level in the village was almost 2 meters. This condition forced hundreds of residents to evacuate to safer places.
