Sopir Angkot Demo in Bogor Successful, City Government Stops Razia Vehicles 20 Years Old
BOGOR - The Bogor City Government, West Java, has temporarily postponed raids on city transportation (angkot) that have exceeded the technical age of 20 years. The delay was carried out while waiting for the issuance of the Mayor's Regulation (Perwali) as a follow-up to the aspirations of drivers.
Deputy Mayor of Bogor Jenal Mutaqin said the decision was made after the City Government received the aspirations of angkot drivers who held a demonstration at the Bogor City Hall, Thursday, January 22.
"This action is a rejection of the enforcement of the regulation on the technical age limit of 20 years. This regulation is not new today, it has been in place for several years and must be obeyed together," said Jenal.
He explained that the City Government had previously given a grace period of two years, starting from 2023 until December 2025. However, some drivers again asked for relief because they were economically affected.
According to him, many drivers still depend on daily income from angkot so it takes time to switch or adjust vehicles.
"Psychologically they still need income and income, especially during the transition period. That's why we are thinking of alternatives," he said.
As a solution, the City Government together with the Transportation Service is preparing a reconfiguration of the angkot corridor which will be regulated through Perwali. This arrangement is accompanied by data collection of vehicles that have exceeded the technical age limit.
"Data collection is still ongoing. Data on vehicles that are 20 years old have been collected by Dishub," he said.
Jenal added that the technical age raid was temporarily stopped because the situation on the ground was not conducive and there was a request from the driver for the crackdown to be postponed until the derivative rules were discussed.
"Finally we stopped the raid related to the technical age of 20 years until the Perwali process is completed. But the SIM and STNK raids still run as usual," he said.
He emphasized that the postponement policy did not apply retroactively to drivers who had previously been taken action against. "Those who have been fined will still be processed. This agreement applies to the future," said Jenal.
Currently, the draft Perwali is being processed in the Bogor City Government's Legal Section and will involve representatives of drivers and angkot entrepreneurs in the discussion. The city government hopes that drivers can support efforts to arrange transportation for the safety of passengers and the convenience of public services.
