Jagakarsa stabbing case because of riding a motorcycle while smoking: The perpetrator surrendered.

JAKARTA - The motorcyclist with the initials JA (32) who stabbed another rider when he was scolded for smoking in Jagakarsa, South Jakarta, finally surrendered.

Jagakarsa Police Chief Kompol Nurma Dewi said the perpetrator surrendered to the Jagakarsa Police on Wednesday, January 21, 2026, accompanied by his family.

According to Nurma, the surrender was carried out after the police visited the perpetrator's residence and gave an appeal for the person concerned to be cooperative.

"Yesterday, members went to his house and urged him to come to the police station. Finally, the perpetrator came to the Jagakarsa Police Station escorted by his family," he told the media on Thursday, January 22, 2026.

After the examination and the title of the case, said Nurma, investigators named JA as a suspect because he had fulfilled the criminal element supported by a number of evidence.

"The evidence in the form of a motorcycle used by the perpetrator, a screwdriver used to attack the victim, and a green online motorcycle helmet were also secured by investigators," he said.

Nurma explained that the stabbing incident occurred when the victim, whose initials were MAM, 19, was riding a motorcycle and passing by the location, on Jalan Moch Kahfi I, Jagakarsa, on Monday, January 19, 2026.

The victim saw the perpetrator driving while smoking, until the cigarette ash hit the victim. Then the victim reprimanded the perpetrator because he felt disturbed. However, the perpetrator did not accept the victim's reprimand and ignited anger.

"The perpetrator threatened to stab the victim with a knife. Feeling threatened, the victim tried to overtake, but the road conditions were congested at that time," he explained.

Furthermore, said Nurma, the perpetrator opened the motorcycle seat, took a screwdriver, and immediately stabbed the victim. As a result of the incident, the victim suffered lacerations and bruises on his back. In fact, the perpetrator also threatened the surrounding residents with a knife before finally fleeing after the crowd began to gather at the scene.

"After receiving a report from the victim, we immediately moved quickly to search," he said.

To be accountable for his actions, JA was charged with Article 466 of the Criminal Code regarding abuse with a maximum imprisonment of 2 years and 6 months or a maximum fine of Rp. 50 million.

Nurma also appealed to the public to continue to prioritize safety and control emotions while driving to prevent conflicts on the road.
