Beside Trump, Prabowo Signs the Gaza Peace Council Charter
JAKARTA - President Prabowo Subianto also signed the charter of the Board of Peace (Board of Peace) for Gaza, alongside US President Donald Trump, on the sidelines of the 2026 World Economic Forum (WEF) event at the Congress Hall, Davos, Switzerland, Thursday afternoon local time.
President Prabowo also signed the charter along with other heads of state, which marked the Gaza Peace Council as an official international organization.
Reported by ANTARA, Thursday, January 22, President Prabowo, wearing a black suit and turban, signed the Peace Council charter on the left side of President Trump.
President Trump as the leader of the Peace Council and the initiator, flanked by President Prabowo on the left and the Prime Minister of Hungary Viktor Orban on the right, who also signed the charter simultaneously.
On the sidelines of the signing, President Trump made a joke in front of the media crew so that President Prabowo and PM Orban could laugh lightly.
President Trump also took a moment to notice President Prabowo who was putting his signature on the charter.
When the signing of the document was completed, President Trump shook hands and patted President Prabowo's back, as if showing the good relationship between the two leaders.
President Trump then watched President Prabowo and PM Orban show the documents they had signed.
In addition to Indonesia and Hungary, a number of other heads of state also signed the Charter of the Peace Council, namely Bahrain, Morocco, Argentina, Armenia, Azerbaijan, Belgium, Bulgaria, Egypt, Hungary, Indonesia, Jordan, Kazakhstan, the Republic of Kosovo, Mongolia, Pakistan, Paraguay, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Turkey, the United Arab Emirates, and Uzbekistan.
The Indonesian participation in the Peace Council aims to ensure that the Gaza transition process remains directed towards a two-state solution, not a permanent arrangement that ignores the rights of the Palestinian people.
Indonesia will use this participation to voice its principled position regarding the cessation of violence, the protection of civilians, humanitarian access, and the restoration of legitimate Palestinian civil governance.
Based on the information collected, the Gaza Peace Council, which was formed by Trump, was a follow-up to the Comprehensive Plan to End the Gaza Conflict supported in United Nations Security Council (UNSC) Resolution 2803.
Trump has announced plans to form a Gaza Peace Council since last week and invited leaders of a number of countries to join.
Trump explained that the Gaza Peace Council could become a "temporary authority" in Gaza, Palestine, which among other things is tasked with overseeing the mobilization of international resources for the Palestinian people in Gaza.
