Rupiah Disorot Istana, Pemerintah Fokus Jaga Fundamental dan Belanja Awal Tahun

JAKARTA - The government has confirmed that the stability of the rupiah exchange rate is routinely discussed in coordination with cross-ministerial economic teams. The main focus remains on strengthening economic fundamentals and accelerating state spending as an early stimulus for the year.

The Minister of State Secretary Prasetyo Hadi said that the meeting between the Minister of Finance, Governor of Bank Indonesia, Coordinating Minister for the Economy, and the Minister of Investment was a routine agenda. One of the concerns was the rupiah exchange rate on Wednesday which approached Rp. 17 thousand per US dollar.

"The exchange rate of the rupiah must be one of the items discussed. The most important thing is the economic fundamentals and the real sector," Prasetyo told reporters at the Presidential Palace, Thursday (22/1/2026).

According to him, the government encourages state spending to be optimal from the beginning of the year to support growth. In addition, downstream projects continue to be accelerated.

Prasetyo revealed that by the end of January, groundbreaking for six downstream projects would be carried out, one of which was in West Kalimantan. The government targets an additional 12 projects following in February to March.

Regarding the revocation of the licenses of 28 companies, Prasetyo emphasized that the legal process must not interfere with economic activities and employment. Evaluations are carried out so that business activities that are still viable can be transferred without stopping the economic wheel.
